Preventative Dentistry

Preventative dentistry is the practice of caring for your teeth and gums to keep them healthy.

At Northern Dental Centre we give strong emphasis on preventative dental care, thereby protect your oral health, minimize or potentially avoid more extensive and costly dental treatment.

The forms of preventative dentistry include daily brushing & dental cleaning, balanced diet and visits to the dentist at regular intervals determined by your dentist.

Brush Your Teeth and Tongue Daily

The most important part of preventive dentistry is to brush your teeth twice daily with fluoride toothpaste. Remember also to brush your tongue when brushing your teeth. This will help remove bacteria from your mouth and help to freshen up your breath.

Floss Daily

Daily flossing is also recommended. Flossing helps to clean out the tight spaces between the teeth.

Limit Sugary and Acidic Food and Drinks

Eating a balanced diet, limiting sugary and acidic food intake and drinking plenty of water throughout the day will also help to protect your teeth.

Regular Visit to your Dentist

Visit your dentist at least once a year for an exam to check for any problems in the teeth or gums. If you’re at a high risk for dental problems, you’ll likely benefit from more frequent dental visits. Dental exams and cleaning allow dentists to identify problems and treat them without delay.
